These patented foot pedals are designed for rudders. The unique design allows for adjusting the foot pedal for different paddlers without adjusting the cable length. With the foot brace locked in place, the rudder is controlled by pushing forward on the toe (much like a gas pedal in a car). This allows you to brace yourself in the kayak for rolls or rough water, unlike other designs that require you to push on both pedals to prevent one from moving.
